School District Unveils Opening Plan

Odessa, TX – The Ector County ISD unveiled its Fall 2020 plan for reopening district schools at Tuesday night’s school board meeting.

Plan for beginning the school year are to stagger student attendance.  Teachers will also get extra training before the start of school. A safe school course will be required for all employees.  Parents and their children will need to decide on what plan they will follow between July 29 through August 2.  Once all students have selected an option, the schools will be releasing a more detailed schedule.

The hybrid plan will involve students being in school district facilities on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. They will have either a live or pre-recorded lesson online on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Those that have selected the learn-at-home option will be instructed through live and pre-recorded lessons.  A third option is virtual learning at a school district facility.  It is being offered for parents who need to have their students at schools due to childcare and supervision restrictions, but do not want them interacting with other students.

High school students will have either the hybrid or virtual option due to class sizes and lack of space for social distancing.  Also, students will not be able to use lockers or share school materials, including – pencils, crayons, notebooks and textbooks. Students will be provided “storage” areas that will not be allowed to move from those areas. Students will be allowed to have backpacks.  Students will be allowed to bring their lunch from home, but will not be allowed to have a parent drop it off.  Lunches will still be provided by the schools.

More detailed information will be posted on the ECISD website.
